This Artist Has Taken to the Streets!
His "Funnycross" project is giving the crosswalks of Torrelodones, Madrid, a much-needed facelift and also make people take notice of the world around them. The metaphor “A bridge between two shores” was the starting point of this artistic venture.
Guelov's designs were initially created with the intention to help drivers and pedestrians stay alert. The bold colors catch everyone's eye, whether you are driving or crossing. With the use of simple geometrical designs and blocks of saturated color, 'Funnycross' is livening up Madrid's urban complexion, to be sure.
The vibrant colors are intended to rejuvenate dated urban signposting. By contemporizing everyday design with simple and eye-catching patterns, Guelov surely manages to capture your attention.
Initially in April 2015 the artist transformed four zebra crossings near schools. Seeing that these were an excellent way to engage people, it was spread to another 13 points in the city. The project has been so well received that it hopes to spread to more cities around Spain and Europe.
