Brothers Jimmy and Jace Papenhausen from California had never been able to see colour in their lives. The brothers couldn't distinguish between shades of red, green and blue, which all appeared the same to them.

That is, till they tried on a pair of special eyewear. The emotional video below perfectly encapsules the moment they were able to see colour for the first time. "They're both color-blind," their mother says in the video. They can't even tell the colour of the balloons in the video as their dad struggles to explain.



Jimmy tries the glasses on first and on seeing the multicoloured balloons he dissolves into tears. Then Jace tries them on and his reaction is not much different. The video was uploaded by the father and has been viewed more than 196,000 times since it went online a few weeks ago.



The pair of sunglasses called EnChroma glasses can make colours appear more vibrant. Around one-tenth  of the population is colour blind – can't perceive as many colours as those with normal vision.  The condition is due to a missing or mutated gene on the X-chromosome and mostly affects men. For about 80 per cent of those affected, the glasses can help them distinguish between certain colours more accurately.
