The World's Top 5 Restaurants
An Italian restaurant was named the best in the world for the first time in the annual rankings which were announced at a ceremony in New York this week. The restaurant from the hometown of Ferrari won the top prize at the 2016 edition of the influential World's 50 Best Restaurants list.
The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list is voted on by an international judges panel of 1500 or so. The pool is equally made up of food writers, chefs and restaurateurs, and “highly regarded ‘gastronomes’”. The awards are independently adjudicated by the global consulting firm Deloitte.
Here are the top 5 along-with the average cost of a meal.
5. Noma - Copenhagen, Denmark. ($290)
Displaced by one place, the famous resto is set to shut down and re-open in another location.
4. Central - Lima, Peru. ($110)
The only one to retain its rank from the previous edition.
3. Eleven Madison Park - New York. ($295)
The best finish for a U.S. restaurant in years.
2. El Celler de Can Roca - Girona, Spain. ($200)
The previous years topper.
1. Osteria Francescana - Modena, Italy. ($250)
Right now, the hottest dining ticket on the planet!
As usual the awards come with their fair share of controversy. This time, they have been criticized for lack of female-run restaurants, exclusion of French cuisine, favoring expensive European-style tasting menus, and judges accepting free meals.
So, why wait ? You have your dining list for the year ready. Thats till the next year’s ceremony which will be held in Melbourne.
