A Real Life Highway Chase!

Police in Madison County received a 911 call about a truck being driven recklessly on U.S. Highway 81. They caught up with the truck with the driver apparently passed out at the wheel, and it wouldn't stop. Eventually a Nebraska sheriff's deputy jumped into the cab of a runaway semitrailer stopping the vehicle from possibly crashing off a busy viaduct bridge.

Dashcam captured footage of the deputy jumping onto the runaway truck. Video of the Dec. 2 incident shows Deputy Todd Volk racing ahead of the truck in a pickup, sprinting across the highway — and jumping to the truck's cab, where he was able to stop the big rig.

The truck slowed as it neared Norfolk, 110 miles northwest of Omaha, allowing Deputy Volk to leap into action. He jumped from a cruiser onto the highway, then into the truck's cab, where he was able to stop the big rig on the bridge just in time.

“As he came by, I could see the driver's head slumped down and felt he was not conscious and it popped in my head that we need to get this vehicle stopped,” Volk told News Channel Nebraska. “At that point in time, the truck was traveling about 20 mph, I jumped back in my patrol vehicle, punched it and got up in front and jumped out and jumped up and grabbed the hand railing and the mirror on the side of the truck and hit the brakes.” That surely was some quick thinking and quicker action on his part !
