A Prison Most Would Like to Break Into!

A Prison Most Would Like to Break Into!

A new medium security prison, Karreenga, will open in Victoria, Australia on Saturday, housing more than 300 inmates. The Karreenga facility cost a whopping $100 million AUD. But, what's more impressive is the innovative concept for the design. The newest layout will be done in a share-house style, meaning inmates will have common areas to cook and relax.

The purpose is to better reflect life in a community for low-risk offenders, with hopes that it will help rehabilitate the convicted.

The term, Karreenga, means "to grow" in a local dialect, and that is the main goal of this facility.

The prison is set to house medium security male prisoners in cottage-style rooms that have heaters and cooking facilities. Also tennis courts and a bakery stocked with even lamb!

The bakery would produce bread, pastries and pies and supplied to the prison system. Only sentenced prisoners will be sent to Karreenga.

The Box Hill Institute will deliver a range of education programs. Prisoners are expected to work across a range of jobs including ground maintenance and cleaning.

There’s no lax on the security aspect with three layers, a lighting system and alarms. Still it's way better than what some of us have to deal with in the real world.
